An old donkey lived on a farm and worked hard every day.
Yaşlı bir eşek bir çiftlikte yaşar ve her gün çok çalışırdı.
But one day his owner said: "You are too old and useless now."
Ama bir gün sahibi şöyle dedi: "Artık çok yaşlandın ve işe yaramazsın."
The donkey was sad, so he decided to leave the farm.
Eşek üzgündü, bu yüzden çiftliği terk etmeye karar verdi.
He thought: "I will go to Bremen and become a musician!"
Şöyle düşündü: "Bremen'e gidip müzisyen olacağım!"
On the road to Bremen, he saw an old dog sitting under a tree.
Bremen'e giden yolda bir ağacın altında oturan yaşlı bir köpek gördü.
The dog looked tired and unhappy, so the donkey asked: "Why are you sitting here alone?"
Köpek yorgun ve mutsuz görünüyordu, bu yüzden eşek sordu: "Neden burada yalnız oturuyorsun?"
The dog said: "My owner doesn't want me anymore because I am too old to hunt."
Köpek dedi ki: "Sahibim artık beni istemiyor çünkü avlanmak için çok yaşlandım."
The donkey smiled and said: "Come with me — we are going to be musicians in Bremen!"

After a while, they found an old cat sitting on a fence and looking very miserable.
Bir süre sonra, bir çitin üzerinde oturan ve çok mutsuz görünen yaşlı bir kedi buldular.
The cat told them: "I am too old to catch mice, so my owner wants to get rid of me."
Kedi onlara dedi ki: "Fare tutmak için çok yaşlandım, bu yüzden sahibim benden kurtulmak istiyor."
The donkey and the dog said together: "Join us — Bremen is the best city for musicians!"

Then they heard a rooster on a roof, crowing louder than all the others.

The rooster said: "My owner is going to cook me for dinner tomorrow, so today I am crowing as loud as I can!"

The three animals laughed and invited him to travel to Bremen with them.

The four friends walked together through the forest, but Bremen was still very far away.

When it got dark, they saw a warm light coming from a small house in the trees.

The donkey looked through the window and saw four robbers eating a big meal.

The four friends made a clever plan to scare the robbers away.

The dog climbed onto the donkey's back, the cat climbed onto the dog, and the rooster sat on top of the cat.

Then, all together, they made the loudest noise they could — braying, barking, meowing and crowing at the same time.

When the robbers heard the terrifying sound, they ran out of the house as fast as possible.

The four animals went inside and ate the delicious meal that the robbers had left behind.

After dinner, they put out the light and fell asleep in different corners of the warm house.
Akşam yemeğinden sonra ışığı söndürdüler ve sıcak evin farklı köşelerinde uykuya daldılar.
Later that night, one brave robber returned to the dark house because he wanted his food back.
O gece ilerleyen saatlerde, cesur bir haydut yiyeceğini geri almak istediği için karanlık eve geri döndü.
But the cat scratched him, the dog bit his leg, the donkey kicked him hard, and the rooster woke everyone up with his crowing.
Ama kedi onu tırmaladı, köpek bacağını ısırdı, eşek onu şiddetle tekmeledi ve horoz ötüşüyle herkesi uyandırdı.
The robber escaped into the forest and told the others: "There is a terrible witch in that house — I am never going back!"

So the four friends decided to stay in the house instead of going to Bremen.

They never became famous musicians, but they were happier than they had ever been before.

Every evening, they sang and played together in their cosy little home in the forest.
