The Ugly Duckling

One spring morning, a mother duck was sitting on her nest by the pond.
Bir ilkbahar sabahı, anne ördek göletin yanındaki yuvasında oturuyordu.
She had five eggs, and she was waiting for them to hatch.
Beş yumurtası vardı ve onların çıkmasını bekliyordu.
After a few days, four yellow ducklings came out of the eggs.
Birkaç gün sonra, dört sarı ördek yavrusu yumurtalardan çıktı.
But the last egg was bigger than the others, and it hatched slowly.
Ama son yumurta diğerlerinden büyüktü ve yavaşça çatladı.
The last duckling was grey and much bigger than his brothers and sisters.
Son yavru gri renkti ve kardeşlerinden çok daha büyüktü.
The other ducks in the pond saw him and started to laugh.
Göletteki diğer ördekler onu gördü ve gülmeye başladı.
"Look at that ugly duckling! He is so different from us!" they said.
"Şu çirkin ördek yavrusuna bak! O bizden çok farklı!" dediler.
Even his brothers and sisters did not want to play with him.
Hatta kardeşleri bile onunla oynamak istemedi.
The little duckling was very sad, so he often sat alone by the water.
Küçük ördek yavrusu çok üzgündü, bu yüzden çoğunlukla suyun kenarında yalnız oturuyordu.
"Why doesn't anyone like me?" he thought sadly.
"Neden kimse beni sevmiyor?" diye düşündü üzgün bir şekilde.
One morning, before breakfast, the duckling made a big decision.
Bir sabah, kahvaltıdan önce, ördek yavrusu büyük bir karar verdi.
He ran away from the pond because he wanted to find a better place.
Daha iyi bir yer bulmak istediği için göletten kaçtı.
He walked through the fields and went into a dark forest.
Tarlaların içinden yürüdü ve karanlık bir ormana girdi.
He saw some wild ducks in the forest, but they did not accept him.
Ormanda birkaç yaban ördeği gördü, ama onlar onu kabul etmedi.
"You are too ugly to stay with us," said the biggest duck.
"Bizimle kalmak için çok çirkinsin," dedi en büyük ördek.
The next day, the duckling found a small lake and stopped there to rest.
Ertesi gün, yavru küçük bir göl buldu ve dinlenmek için orada durdu.
He saw three beautiful white swans flying above the lake.

They were the most beautiful birds he had ever seen.

"I wish I could be near those beautiful birds," he said quietly.

Winter came, and the weather was colder than before.

The duckling was tired and hungry, so he hid under some dry leaves.
Yavru yorgun ve açtı, bu yüzden birkaç kuru yaprağın altına saklandı.
He spent many long, cold nights alone in the forest.
Ormanda birçok uzun ve soğuk geceyi yalnız geçirdi.
When spring came, the duckling felt different because he was growing bigger.
İlkbahar geldiğinde, yavru farklı hissetti çünkü büyüyordu.
One warm morning, he walked to the lake and looked at his reflection in the water.
Sıcak bir sabah, göle yürüdü ve sudaki yansımasına baktı.
He was very surprised because he saw a beautiful white swan looking back at him.
Çok şaşırdı çünkü ona bakan güzel bir beyaz kuğu gördü.
"Is that really me?" he asked himself, and he looked again.
"Bu gerçekten ben miyim?" diye sordu kendine ve tekrar baktı.
The three swans came to the lake and swam towards him.
Üç kuğu göle geldi ve ona doğru yüzdü.
"Welcome! You are the most beautiful swan we have ever seen," they said.
"Hoş geldin! Sen şimdiye kadar gördüğümüz en güzel kuğusun," dediler.
The young swan felt happy for the first time in his life.
Genç kuğu hayatında ilk kez mutlu hissetti.
He finally found a place where he truly belonged.
Sonunda gerçekten ait olduğu bir yer buldu.
He spread his big white wings and flew proudly above the lake.
Büyük beyaz kanatlarını açtı ve gölün üzerinde gururla uçtu.
Being different was not a problem anymore — it was his greatest gift.
